One of our standout projects, the roof replacement at The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida, earned the prestigious 2019 Sarnafil Project of the Year Award and was featured in Roofing Magazine on January 28, 2021.

This recognition highlights our team's ability to successfully execute demanding commercial roofing projects while addressing building access, safety, material selection, and operational challenges.

The Challenge: Replacing a Roof at an Active Luxury Hotel

The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove consists of two 26-story towers, each featuring a distinctive standing-seam metal roof.

Replacing the aging roofing system presented several challenges:

• Working at significant heights on steep roof slopes.
• Managing limited space for construction equipment and materials.
• Minimizing disruption to hotel guests and daily operations.
• Addressing the corrosive effects of the coastal environment.
• Maintaining the building's architectural appearance.

A traditional metal roof replacement would have required extensive crane operations near the hotel's entrance.

The CAWCO Solution: Innovation Without Compromise

Led by CAWCO Area Manager Bill Devine, the team recommended an alternative approach using the Sarnafil Décor PVC Roofing System.

This solution recreated the appearance of traditional standing-seam metal roofing while offering a different material approach suited to the project's conditions.

The project involved installing approximately 30,000 square feet of PVC roofing.

Through detailed logistical planning, CAWCO transported materials using the hotel's service elevators, eliminating the need for a large construction crane.

Specially designed suspended work platforms supported installation on the steep roof surfaces, while comprehensive safety measures helped protect workers throughout the project.

Award-Winning Results

The project began in February 2019 and was completed in November 2019, ahead of schedule.

Its innovative design, challenging installation, and successful execution earned the 2019 Sarnafil Project of the Year Award.

The project was subsequently featured in Roofing Magazine in an article titled:
